Oando embarks on domestic gas use campaign

Worried about the kerosene stove which most Nigerians still use in their homes and its attendant hazards, particularly on the environment, Head of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Oando Marketing, Mr. Ganiyu Azeez, said the company’s campaign on gas use for all homes would be achieved soon.
Azeez said with a population of 170 million Nigerians, only a small percent of people use gas in their homes and Oando is determined to sustain the LPG revolution. “In the last few years, we have embarked on a campaign with O-Gas product line to get more Nigerians to switch to LPG, the safer, more efficient and cleaner cooking option,” he said.
He said Oando embarked on Teens Can Cook Competition, with the objective to appeal to an upcoming age group of future homemakers, to create the awareness of the benefits of use of cooking gas. “Some of these children come from homes where their parents use kerosene. Awareness campaigns have been done in schools because we know that children are the hearts of their parents. By the time they go through this competition and they see that they are cooking with significant less stress, not having to choke on smoke from the dirty fuels or the long term implication on their health, they will be encouraged to convince parents to make the switch to LPG,” he said.
Over 200 schools participated in the competition and 10 secondary schools got through to the grand finale, where Ogunbajo Joy, a 16-year-old student of St. Timothy College, Lagos, emerged the best junior chef in Lagos State, as her local rice and ofada sauce delicacy was adjudged to be the best dish.
Balogun Barakat of Bolade Junior Secondary School, Oshodi came in second position, while Eguase Edith of Ransome Kuti College Mushin, claimed the third position.
