Governors should respect judiciary

The Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, has said that the judiciary should not be subjected to the discretion of any sitting state governor.
Wike stated that suppression of the judiciary by the executive could lead to abuses that might affect the dispensation of justice.
Wike cautioned that the system would collapse if the judicial system of succession was not respected by governors and others.
Wike, who made reference to the NJC’s experience with the immediate past administration of Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, said, “The system will collapse if we refuse to respect the judicial system of succession as laid out.
“Allowing the judiciary to be subjected to the discretion of sitting governors will desecrate the independence of the judiciary and lead to abuses that would negatively affect the dispensation of justice.
“My administration will never do anything that will threaten the rule of law. We will always uphold the customs and traditions of the Judiciary. We never break down the laid down procedure.
